Like clockwork, I was up really early and got my usual coffee and pastry from the local store. Nothing new here.
Today I wanted a break and something outdoors, so headed off to Matsushima, getting off the train at Matsushima-Kaigan station that delivers you right to the waterfront where you can book boat tours, eat seafood and as I did, wander along ad walk over the pedestrian bridge (¥200) to Fukuura Island. It’s a pretty island and can get quite busy, but there are really nice views of the area as well as beautiful woodlands and beaches.
I’m not a seafood or sushi person, but I did indulge in some soft serve ice cream from one of the popular vendors, opting for plain old milk – not even vanilla. It was still delicious and satisfied an ice cream craving I’ve had for a little while.
Due to waking early I’m always tired towards the afternoon, and as I was leaving the next day I decided to be organised and ready to depart when I woke. I booked tickets to Nagoya, to break up the journey to the southern island.
