Japan Day 5: Sapporo

I’m sat in the communal area of my hostel, only one other person here having a japanese lesson on their laptop. I boil the kettle for my green tea, but surprise even myself by making a cup of instant coffee, that’s how much I craved a coffee! Nescafe! The absolute shame of it. I sit and write for a while, then research food. I came to Japan for two things, photography and food. I’m not sure which one has the highest importance to me, but my stomach often rules over my mind.

I went no further than 50 yards from the hostel before I found a small joint on a street corner, and plumped for the salt pork ramen which was absolutely delicious, and got even better with a couple of drips of sesame oil on the countertop. Japan really is great for food, and alongside Malaysia I can’t think of anywhere better for my own personal taste. I’m not into sushi but there’s still so much to enjoy.

I had a wander about Sapporo, it does seem geared at skiing, boarding, shopping, food, gambling and some other illicit activities. I’m going to check out some adjacent port cities then next couple of days, and possibly the beer museum. At night I get out and about, this time to take photos, and again I notice some of the seedier parts of town with girls of dubious age encouraging men into questionable clubs!
